You should update your blog at least once a week to prevent your blog going downhill. It is very obvious that posts determine your readers. People come your blog because of your posts and content of you post. Thus, there are few things you need to do before you publish your post.

1. Quality
Quality of your posts determine the number of your blog visits. Make sure your post content is related with your niche of your blog. Never write something that is out of the topic. This will only make your readers feel annoy. Make sure your post is informative and your readers can learn from your post. Quality posts enable you to grab more readers.

2. Spell Check Your Post
If you able to write articles with no spelling mistake and grammatical mistake, then you will have no problems in this point. If you cannot avoid some grammatical mistake, you at least need to make sure your posts are free from spelling errors.

3. Insert A Picture
This is not "compulsory" but if you can insert at least one picture in a post, your blog will have a nice view compare to blog posts with words only.

After you have done the 3 things above, you can publish your post with no worries. Besides, there are few things that you can do after you publish to let other people know about your updates, as well as increase your traffic.

1. Submit to Social Network
Submit your articles to social network like Digg and StumbleUpon can increase you traffic. This step is very important to increase your traffic, as well as grab more readers. It's also useful for SEO. I do this every time I make a post.

2. Submit to Article Directories
This is also what I do every time I make a post. Example of article directories are EzineArticle and GoArticles. Submit your articles to these sites and link back to your blog so that you can get more visitors.

3. Announce to Your Maling List
If you are using an auto responder service for your internet business, you can send a mail to all the people in your mailing list and tell them you have updated your blog, as well as link back to your post. If you have a huge maling list, then this step will be very useful for you to increase your readers.

4. Announce via Twitter
If you have a twitter account, you can post a short message and announce that you have just updated your blog. This is what I do every time I publish a post on my blog. If you have many follower, then you increase your visitors and readers. I highly recommend you to own a twitter account so that your readers can get closer with you.
